At Aqueduct Technologies, our current go-forward approach to cloud is to leverage a multi-cloud. This approach allows customers to take advantage of various strengths different cloud providers offer and allows you to and mix and match solutions to meet the needs of your businesses’ budget, applications, and workloads. This also avoids locking in long-term pricing and makes switching easier if you decide your business needs to shift based on performance or budget.

To leverage a multi-cloud consumption model, we typically use VMware’s Suite of abstraction software to make any cloud run VMware. With VMware, you have the same look and feel across multiple clouds for operation and management. With this approach, Aqueduct’s customers can run in a hybrid cloud model for the use of legacy applications that aren’t cloud-native.

A cloud-native application is a term used to describe container-based environments. Cloud-native technologies are used to develop applications built with services packaged in containers, deployed as microservices, and managed on elastic infrastructure through agile DevOps processes that continuously deliver workflows.

At this time it’s not possible for legacy applications to run in the cloud as cloud-native, which is why VMware is so beneficial because you’re able to run those legacy applications in the cloud while a vendor or internal IT works on a redesign of applications for cloud-native use.
